Carlisle have signed striker Luke Armstrong from Harrogate, the clubs have announced.

The 27-year-old is to begin training with his new side ahead of the transfer becoming official on January 1.

Former Boro and Hartlepool striker Armstrong had been set to make a deadline-day move to Wrexham in the summer, but that fell through with the EFL stating relevant paperwork had not been submitted in time.

A joint statement from League One Carlisle and League Two Harrogate on Monday said: “Harrogate Town, Carlisle United and Luke Armstrong can each confirm they have all reached and completed an agreement for a permanent transfer on January 1.

“Having already successfully completed his medical at Brunton Park, Luke will now leave Town with immediate effect to begin training with United, pending the opening of the transfer window and transfer of his registration.”

Armstrong had been with Harrogate since 2021, scoring 12 League Two goals in his first season and then 16 in the 2022-23 campaign. He has netted once in 12 league appearances so far this term.
