An appeal has been launched after a woman was left with facial injuries following a suspected assault on a County Durham bus.

They said the incident is believed to have taken place on the number 20 Prince Bishops Go North East bus in the Sunderland Road area of Durham City at around 5:40pm on March 13.

Durham Police confirmed the woman did not need hospital treatment, and that a man in his 30s has been arrested in connection with the incident.

A Durham Police spokesperson said: “Police are appealing for witnesses to a suspected assault which took place on a bus from Durham City to Sunderland.

“The incident is believed to have taken place on the number 20 Prince Bishops Go North-East bus in the Sunderland Road area of Durham City, at about 5.40pm on March 13.

“A woman suffered minor facial injuries but did not require hospital treatment.

“A man in his 30s, has been arrested in connection with the incident and has since been bailed pending further enquiries.

“Officers are particularly keen to speak to anyone on the bus who may have witnessed anything.
