As we announce the launch of the first BUSINESSiQ Awards, we knew we wanted a safe pair of hands to guide our guests through what we hope will be one of the the most memorable business events of the year.

Writer, comic, actor and presenter Alfie Joey is no stranger to awards ceremonies - having had his moment in the spotlight on countless occasions.

He told us the BUSINESSiQ Awards will be a particularly special occasion for him: ‘As a County Durham lad, who was brought up in a Northern Echo household, I am so proud to host the first BUSINESSiQ awards.

“Sometimes in the North East we can feel left behind, cut off or not recognised for the great work we do, so now is the time to shine a light on our brilliant businesses.

“This will be the perfect occasion to sing from the rooftops about the exciting local visionaries and companies who really are making waves in the world of business.”

Alfie will join us on April 28th in the Bishops Suite at Ramside Hall as we celebrate the success of companies and leaders from across the North East in a range of key categories:

  • Training and Skills Award
  • Innovation Award
  • New Business of the Year
  • Creative Business of the Year
  • Export Champion Award
  • Diversity and Inclusion Award
  • Employee Health and Wellbeing Award
  • Community Impact Award
  • Net Zero Award
  • Business of the Year
  • Inspirational Leader of the Year

We aim to make it a major date in the business calendar and Northern Echo Editor Gavin Foster said it would be a fitting reward for those who go above and beyond every day.

He said: “Businesses in our region have and continue to face tough challenges - but they continue to show tenacity, determination, ingenuity and innovation to deliver time and time again.

“The region is filled with success stories, many of which we have had the chance to feature and it’s wonderful to be able to launch these awards to celebrate this success.”
