POLICE have thanked members of the public who helped a man they found in a street with a serious neck wound.
Officers were called to reports of concerns for a man in Wansbeck Avenue, Stanley, just after 6.15pm last night.
A man in his 30s was found with serious injuries to his neck.
It is understood about four passers-by stopped to help the man until an ambulance crew arrived at the scene, within a few minutes.
A spokesperson for Durham police said: "The man was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle for treatment.
"We would like to thank members of the public who also assisted the man at the scene."
The injured man remains in hospital.
